Energy transition metals RawMat2023 – organised by EXCEED & ENICON HE projects

News,Uncategorized

Horizon Europe projects EXCEED and ENICON co-organised a session on Energy Transition Metals in the framework of the 2nd International Conference on Raw Materials and Circular Economy “RawMat2023”. They brought together academia and industry to discuss all the current trends and challenges towards the transition to a net-zero economy.

More than 70 people participated, coming from the academia and leading companies in the fields of Energy, Steel, Copper, Batteries and Plastics.

In the context of the event, several interesting presentations were given in topics including (but not limited to) energy transition metals: “Future demand and low carbon processing technologies” (Kostas Komnitsas – TUC), “Challenges in Li minerals recovery from different deposits” (Lev Filippov – UL), “Exploring barriers to the implementation of circular economy processes for batteries” (Vasileios Rizos – CEPS), “Issues related to the social license to operate in European lithium projects” (Toni Eerola – GTK), “Strategic and critical raw materials in the battery supply chain – skills, education and training” (Joanna Kulczycka – AGH University).

In the panel discussion that followed the presentations, representatives from Larco S.A (S. Tabouris), Euronickel (L. Kaklamanos) and Sunlight (N. Tsiouvaras) discussed the aforementioned topics and presented their approaches.
